RIZHAO, September 28th — The signing ceremony for the Lanshan 1,000 Nm3/h Direct-Coupled Solar-to-Hydrogen Demonstration Project took place at Lanshan Economic Development Group. Leading by Lanshan Economic Development Group, the project leverages local park photovoltaic resources and procures a 1,000 Nm3/h atmospheric hydrogen production system from Lankun Hydrogen Energy to establish a megawatt-scale direct solar-to-hydrogen utilization, targeting green metallurgy and green chemical sectors.

The facility adopts Lankun Hydrogen Energy's technical pathway combining direct-coupled solar DC power with square atmospheric electrolyzers. By eliminating the need for AC/DC inverters and utility-scale battery energy storage systems, the solution utilizes IGBT-based DC-to-DC converters to feed solar DC power directly into the square atmospheric electrolyzer. This design bypasses multiple AC-DC conversion steps, reducing energy conversion losses while eliminating capital expenditures for inverters and storage systems—thereby lowering upfront CAPEX and the overall Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH).
Lankun Hydrogen Energy's proprietary square atmospheric electrolyzer is engineered to accommodate fluctuating DC power inputs from solar arrays, supporting a wide flexible load range from 0% to 120%. The system dynamically adjusts hydrogen production loads in response to real-time photovoltaic output variations without requiring energy storage buffering or peak-shaving units. Furthermore, the system offers simplified operation and maintenance alongside byproduct oxygen recovery capabilities.
By utilizing local solar resources, the project establishes a fully off-grid, direct-coupled solar-to-hydrogen operational model, delivering green hydrogen feedstock to local industrial end-users across chemical and metallurgical sectors.
