Hydrogen Drone Swarms Deployed in Wenzhou Typhoon Relief as Hydrogen Emergency Equipment Enters Scaled Application

On August 9^th , Typhoon "Dolphin" struck the China eastern coastal regions of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. Tempest battered areas such as Yongjia and Yueqing in Wenzhou, triggering slope hazards, uprooted trees, and blocked roads. Terrain damage severely constrained traditional manual inspections, driving up the difficulty of disaster assessment and power grid hazard remediation.

State Grid Zhejiang(Wenzhou) Electric Power Company quickly activated cross-regional emergency support, partnering with HydrogenCraft to dispatch a team of hydrogen-powered drones to the front lines for disaster investigation and potential‑risk checks for power facilities. 

Leveraging the long‑endurance advantage of hydrogen power, the drone can perform cruising within a 40‑kilometer radius and continuous cross‑mountain inspection up to 60 kilometers. It conducts aerial surveying and mapping of transmission corridors inaccessible to personnel, transmits on‑site footage in real time, and provides first‑hand data for emergency repair decision‑making.

Among the deployed fleet, the FC100 hydrogen-electric drone delivered critical relief supplies and equipment across complex mountainous areas. Meanwhile, HydrogenCraft’s self-developed Hypal portable hydrogen generator—light enough for a single responder to carry into isolated disaster zones—supplied backup power for communications and emergency lighting. Combined, the drone and generator system delivered 40 kWh of emergency power per flight to disaster areas 20 kilometers away, deploying power units via winch drop at all kinds of complex location points.

Three consecutive real‑world disaster‑relief operations mark the advent of the hydrogen‑powered long‑endurance era for industrial drones. Thanks to their extended flight times and high adaptability, hydrogen-electric drones are gaining strong traction across forest fire services, emergency response, and logistics sectors. Guangdong Province has already issued a draft development plan for the hydrogen drone industry, while more than 500 domestic distributors have expressed intent to partner with HydrogenCraft. Moving forward, these hydrogen emergency equipment forces will be integrated into the Swift Emergency Response Framework, standing ready for future disaster prevention and relief missions.
