A tender for supervision services for a 50,000-ton hydrogen storage peak-shaving power station project in Xinjiang was issued on September 9, marking another step forward for the large-scale hydrogen storage project in northwest China.

The tender was issued by Xinjiang Nanchuang New Energy Co., Ltd. for the 36th Regiment 50,000-ton Hydrogen Storage Peak-Shaving Power Station Project (Tender No. SDG-GC-2026-10). The project is located in Ruoqiang County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to the tender announcement.
The project has received the required approval, with self-raised funds of RMB 4.03 billion. Xinjiang Nanchuang New Energy Co., Ltd. is the tendering party. Publicly available information shows that the company is a subsidiary of Guangdong Namkoo Power Co., Ltd.
The project is planned with a hydrogen storage power station capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh. Its hydrogen production system is designed to produce 20,000 tons of green hydrogen annually in the current construction phase.
The hydrogen produced will be stored in spherical storage tanks and supplied to hydrogen fuel cell systems for power generation. The supporting fuel cell system is expected to generate approximately 320 million kWh of electricity annually.
The project will also include a 50 MW/200 MWh four-hour energy storage system and a 220 kV step-up substation.
For hydrogen production, the project will deploy 10 electrolyzers rated at 1,000 Nm³/h each and 14 electrolyzers rated at 2,000 Nm³/h each, giving a combined hydrogen production capacity of 38,000 Nm³/h.
The supporting facilities will include nine 4,000 Nm³/h gas-liquid separation units, one 2,000 Nm³/h gas-liquid separation unit, nine 4,000 Nm³/h hydrogen purification units and one 2,000 Nm³/h hydrogen purification unit. The project will also install eight hydrogen compression units.
In addition, 12 spherical hydrogen storage tanks, each with a capacity of 3,000 m³, are planned.
The tender covers supervision services for the project as a single bidding package.
Tender documents are available from 10:00 on September 9 to 19:00 on September 15, 2026. The deadline for bid submission and the bid opening is 11:00 on September 30, 2026.
The project is part of a broader hydrogen storage development plan for the 36th Regiment. Earlier public information identified the overall project as a 200 MW/800 MWh hydrogen storage peak-shaving power station, with a planned annual green hydrogen output of 50,000 tons after full development, including 20,000 tons in the first phase.
