ZHUZHOU, China — Construction is progressing rapidly on the Chunhua Hydrogen Industrial Park in Xinma Industrial Park, Zhuzhou High-Tech Zone, Hunan Province. The 85-mu (approximately 5.7-hectare) project has a planned building area of about 81,000 square meters and a total investment of RMB 500 million (approximately US$70 million).

The industrial park will include a hydrogen  research institute, corporate headquarters, a trade and exhibition center, an industrial cluster zone and an intelligent manufacturing facility. Since the project was filed at the end of 2024, construction has advanced steadily, and the project has been included among Hunan Province’s key construction projects. By the end of July, cumulative investment had reached RMB 133 million. All factory buildings are scheduled to be completed and commissioned in 2028.

Chunhua Hydrogen  is a Chinese developer of PEM water-electrolysis hydrogen production technology. The company says its core technologies originated from research associated with China’s Manned Space Program and were developed through a decade of R&D. It currently holds more than 100 intellectual property rights and has participated in the development of two national standards.

The company’s product portfolio covers a power range from 0.2 to 500 Nm³/h, with products sold in more than 10 countries and regions. Its products have also entered the supply chain of Sinopec.

At the company’s exhibition hall, C•HySA-series PEM electrolyzers are displayed across a range of sizes, from compact small-scale stacks to large high-power systems. Technicians were also commissioning a unit scheduled for export to South Korea.

“We are not simply building several facilities; we are developing a complete industrial ecosystem,” a company executive said.

Once fully operational, the industrial park is expected to have annual manufacturing capacity of 1 GW of PEM electrolyzers. Its equipment will serve applications in energy storage, chemical processing, metallurgy, transportation and healthcare, providing key equipment for green hydrogen production.

The park is expected to generate approximately RMB 3 billion (about US$419 million) in annual sales revenue, along with more than RMB 110 million in annual tax contributions.

By integrating R&D, manufacturing, testing, exhibition and trade, the industrial park is expected to strengthen Zhuzhou’s hydrogen equipment manufacturing capabilities and serve as an important hydrogen industry hub in central China.

Chunhua Hydrogen  has established joint R&D platforms with Changsha University of Science and Technology, Tsinghua University and City University of Hong Kong. The company has also collaborated with Hunan University on the compilation of national-level textbooks on water-electrolysis hydrogen production.

In recent months, experts from Changsha University of Science and Technology visited the construction site to discuss the next phase of joint research. Meanwhile, Chunhua Hydrogen  is accelerating its international expansion. Its Hong Kong-based R&D and sales subsidiary has been established, while its products have recently entered markets in Russia and Africa.
