APEC Energy Week Concludes: Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Cooperation Enters a New Stage of FullIndustrialChain Codevelopment

BEIJING - From September 6^th to 12^th, the APEC Energy Week was held in Beijing, featuring the 16th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting. Centered on the theme Building an Inclusive, Innovative and Collaborative Asia-Pacific Energy Community, the Energy Week advanced cooperation across three priority areas. Multiple sessions covered hydrogen energy, including joint standard setting, experience sharing and investment cooperation.

The Energy Week delivered a “1+3+5” outcome framework, releasing a suite of documents including the 2026 APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting Joint Statement. The joint statement highlighted hydrogen-related achievements and placed hydrogen energy on the top-level agenda for Asia-Pacific energy cooperation. As the host, China’s five voluntary pledges opened hydrogen-related policies, technologies and training resources to all APEC economies. During the event, multiple institutions unveiled research frameworks and reports, calling for low-carbon hydrogen development and the roll-out of hydrogen refueling and other infrastructure. These documents reviewed Asia-Pacific energy collaboration practices and put forward cooperation recommendations. China Energy Investment Corporation established the Asia-Pacific Clean Energy Training Institute, committing to provide 1,000 clean energy training slots for APEC economies over the next decade.

The Energy Week launched toolkits and reference guidelines for liquefied natural gas and hydrogen standards to promote regional hydrogen standard harmonization and reduce cross-border trade barriers. At special seminars, China Hydrogen Alliance Research Institute shared China’s hydrogen industry status and real-world demonstration project cases for reference by Asia-Pacific economies.

At the supporting industry promotion event, Beijing’s four major energy functional zones were showcased, with six energy cooperation projects signed on-site. Among them was a strategic cooperation agreement on green fuel technologies to advance the development of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industrial chain.

The Energy Week sent multiple key industry signals: hydrogen cooperation has been elevated to the level of strategic coordination across the Asia-Pacific region; cooperation models have shifted from standalone technical projects to full-industrial-chain collaboration covering standards, talent and investment. The release of standard documents and the signing of industrial projects signal that Asia-Pacific hydrogen cooperation has entered a phase of large-scale implementation.
