Ordos Advances 10,000-Tonne-Scale PV-Based Green Hydrogen Project

Release time : 2026-09-16 Source :Organizing Committee

Ordos has reached a key milestone in its 10,000-tonne-scale photovoltaic-based green hydrogen project, completing its first hydrogen filling operation for tube-trailer containers. The hydrogen produced has a purity of 99.999%, marking the project’s transition into large-scale filling and regular off-site transportation.

The milestone is accelerating the development of an integrated value chain in Ordos covering renewable-power-based hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, tube-trailer filling, cross-regional transportation and end-use applications.

Leveraging the region’s abundant wind and solar resources, the project uses electricity generated from photovoltaic power to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis. The production process does not involve fossil-fuel combustion, enabling the production of green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions.

The project has established a full chain linking green-power-based hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, tube-trailer filling, cross-regional transportation and multi-sector utilisation. Its green hydrogen can be supplied to coal-chemical operations, heavy-duty transport and metallurgical industries, providing a new pathway for decarbonising traditional energy-intensive sectors.

As an important part of Inner Mongolia’s modern energy-economy demonstration zone, Ordos is continuing to develop its green hydrogen industry. The city is promoting coordinated development between renewable-energy resources and hydrogen production, while advancing the integration of green hydrogen with modern coal-chemical industries and exploring new low-carbon models based on the integration of new energy and chemicals.

Green hydrogen can replace grey hydrogen in industrial processes, helping reduce carbon emissions from coal-chemical operations. It is also being deployed in transport applications, including hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks at mining sites and hydrogen buses in urban areas, creating additional channels for green hydrogen utilisation.

From the development of large-scale wind and solar bases to the commercial deployment of energy storage and green hydrogen, Ordos is continuing its energy transition and working to establish itself as a core green hydrogen demonstration hub in China.

The city is leveraging its abundant renewable-energy resources to improve infrastructure across the hydrogen value chain, covering production, storage, transportation and utilisation. This is supporting a high-quality transition for resource-based cities driven by wind, solar and green hydrogen, while contributing to China’s carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality goals.

Inner Mongolia Zhongke Guohe New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. continues to develop renewable-energy projects in Inner Mongolia, focusing on opportunities in wind, solar and energy storage as well as green hydrogen. The company is participating in regional energy-transition development and working with industry partners to support a zero-carbon future.
